August 24th 2011

This week, we also want to send a huge thank you to Becky Kapsalis--our delightful YiaYia and volunteer of many years, a mother and grandmother, author, speaker, Certified Parent and Child Behavior Coach, and more. She has begun a parenting class with our moms, and we are so blessed to have her share her wisdom and experience here at The O’Connor House. Thank you, Becky! You are a blessing to us.
God supplies our needs in mysterious ways, and He has already supplied our needed dryer! We are so grateful to see how He provides for this ministry in His power. He gives us many physical blessings, as well as the spiritual blessings we can have in Jesus! Thank you to Mark Pachciarz for your willingness to help us repair and install our dryer. We are so grateful for your help.

Information

“Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name.” 1 Chronicles 29:13

I have been very surprised to see the ornaments and garlands being put up in the last few days. Doesn’t everyone know that it is Thanksgiving month? Well, anyway, Thanksgiving is a time that reminds us how much God has given us that we do not deserve. What a blessing it is to be a part of The O'Connor House and be His hands in giving some of those blessings to the residents here.

One of our greatest blessings here is to see new lives. Just before midnight on Saturday, a little baby girl was born. Janiah Nicole weighed in at 7 pounds 10 ounces and stretched out to 20 inches long. She is a great sleeper! What a delight it is to meet her after months of waiting! Please pray for her and her mom as they continue to adjust.

We welcomed Janiah this week, but we have also been saying good bye, as our resident Angelica is moving into her new apartment. Please be praying for her and her soon-to-be-born baby as they settle in to this new adventure.

Also, please continue to pray for the residents that are still here, that they would see the Lord Jesus’s hand in their lives. Also be praying for Mandy as she will begin the process of interviewing prospective residents.

Thank you for your faithfulness to this ministry in prayer, finances, volunteering, and more. We are so thankful for you!

Blessings,

Info!

“A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families….” Psalm 68:5-6a

How thankful I am to be a part of God’s Eternal family, and what a privilege it is to also be a part of The O’Connor House family. We desire that the Lord uses us to be a family to the women and children who enter this home, and He has in some of their lives. The Lord Jesus is the one who cares for us, and is with us, no matter what the circumstances. Pray with me that the women would all know the blessing of being in the Lord Jesus’ family and having God as their Father.

What a blessing it was to host Mekhi’s 1st Birthday party this past weekend. I was so touched by the love you could feel in this house…it really felt like a family had come together to celebrate! I wish all of you could have experienced the day. Thank you so much to those of you who were able to attend and join this family for Mekhi’s big day! Attached is a picture of the fun.

We want to send a special thank you to Nancy Childs and the Carmel Friends Church Women’s Circle for all the wonderful gifts they gave to The O'Connor House this week. Also, we want to thank Orchard Park Presbyterian for the fun shower they held for The O'Connor House women last week. It is such a blessing to have friends like you who partner with us in providing needs and desires. We are so blessed! Thank you!

We at The O'Connor House are trying to get the word out about this organization. Our Director, Mandy Teter, would love to come and talk with your business, church, small group, etc., to share more about this ministry. Please give her a call at 317-508-9627 or e-mail her at mteter@theoconnorhouse.org, to set up a time. More people in central Indiana need to hear!

Requests for this week:
• Carpet Vacuum Cleaner (used is fine—ours is broken)
• Paper Towels
• Baby Wipes

Thankful for a Heavenly Father and an Eternal Family,

Elli Jones

Information

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galations 6:9

Even a month into the school year, I’m sure some of you are weary of it. For others, how many weeks has it been since your vacation?—I’m sure you are weary too! Here at The O'Connor House, we desire to do the best we can for these women, and sometimes we can become weary. Though it can be easy to become weary in well-doing, remember, we are not living for the here and now, but an eternity with Jesus. A future like that should encourage us, even on our most weary days!

Thank you for your continuing help and support of The O'Connor House. We are so grateful to each of you who helped us during the grant writing process. The grant was submitted last week, so we still covet your prayers for God’s will in this area! We desire this grant so that we can build a larger home to serve more women. We currently have 10 women on the waiting list, and we wish that we had rooms to offer them! Please be praying for these women, that they would continue to choose life for their unborn children despite the difficult circumstances, and that they would not become weary in well-doing! Their names are Gina, Carrie, Roslyn, Deanna, Iryna, Jennifer, Jolene, Jalena, Adrian, Marquesha.

Many of you will remember Jessica, one of our recent residents. Next month is her son’s 1st birthday, and you are all invited to Mekhi Johnson’s 1st Birthday Party! It will be held here at The O'Connor House on Sunday, October 17, 2010, at 2pm. Mekhi and Jessica would be very blessed by your presence.

Looking forward to God’s harvest,

Elli Jones

Information...

“The tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement….present an offering made to the LORD by fire. Do no work on that day, because it is the Day of Atonement, when atonement is made for you before the LORD your God.” Leviticus 23:27-28

Today is Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. The Day of Atonement was the once-a-year time that the High Priest of Israel would go before God into the most Holy Place of the Temple with the blood of a prescribed sacrifice, asking God’s forgiveness, and trusting that the death of the flawless animal would temporarily suffice to atone God’s wrath. Death is a consequence of sin; it is today, just as it was in the Old Testament. Let us not forget that, while the Old Testament sacrifices were temporary, it is only through the blood of Jesus that we can be saved eternally from sins’ consequence of death.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support of The O'Connor House. We are so blessed by you! Please continue to pray for the final details of the grant-writing process, and for those who are writing it. Pray for stamina and accuracy to finish strong! Also, please be in prayer for the residents here as they go through the process of looking for jobs. It can sometimes be a challenge.

Requests for this week:
- Prayer!
- Baby Wipes
- Old Cell Phones (to use for a 911 phone)
- Basic Cleaning Supplies (like 409)
- Ladies’ Dress Shirts (size 3X-4X)
- Ladies’ Dress Pants (size 26-28)
- Ladies’ Interview Shoes (size 9½)

Thankful that sins have been atoned for in Jesus Christ,
Elli Jones

Information September 10th

“On the first day of the seventh month hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work. It is a day for you to sound the trumpets.” Numbers 29:1

You may wonder what this verse has to do with The O’Connor House. Well, as you may have noticed on your calendars, this week is the Jewish Holiday of Rosh Hashanah, which is the Feast of Trumpets and the beginning of the Jewish calendar year. For the women in The O'Connor House, their time here is an opportunity of new beginnings, a time to start over and set their lives on course, just as some people do on New Year. Please pray with us that during their time at The O'Connor House, they will also set their courses toward Jesus.

As of today, The O'Connor House is full! We are delighted to welcome two new women this week. First, Leonni moved in on Thursday, and then Tracey arrived just today. We are so blessed to have a full house again—and we pray that we will be a blessing to each of these women and their children as well. Give them a warm welcome when you come by! They have joined Stephanie, Angelica, Nikki, and baby Jonathan who already live here, making The O'Connor House a very busy household!

Please continue to pray for our grant writing process. The application date is coming up soon, and lots of work is going into the application. We desire that God’s best would be accomplished in this matter!

Requests this week:
Brother LC51 ink (Black, Yellow, Magenta, Cyan)
Printer paper

Thankful for a God who gives us second chances, and grace through His Son Jesus,
